Our Core Values

Our Core Values

As a working mom trying to fit in everything, I worried about how to do it all and raise kind, caring, competent kids. After growing up with an older brother who had a drug addiction, which eventually cost him his life, providing stability and structure for my children was incredibly important to me. I came to realize that I couldn’t juggle it all, but I could strive for work life integration.

I wanted to be a recognized business professional, but more importantly, a great mom who was there for and involved in the lives of her children. I wanted to give back to my community, always keeping family top-of-mind. I wanted to serve as a role model and mentor to others, but have energy left at the end of day for the loved ones waiting for me at home. I wanted to assist my parents and the love of my life as they entered their final years, recognizing how my cup would always be more than ½ full.

It’s my hope that in starting an online community of sharing, that both men and women just might help each other find better work life integration, an inspiration to the start of a rough day, or a story that brings a chuckle or offers a different view of things.

The Critical Importance of WHY

Organizations tell people WHAT to do.  They often tell them HOW to do it. But many organizations fail when it comes to explaining the WHY: sharing the in-depth reasons why a given task done a given way is so important. An example at the factory level:  for many companies, including Alberto Culver, Walmart is a…

The Smartest People I Know Ask for Help

Find people who have had experience in areas you haven’t.  ASK THEM for help. These may be folks on your team, in other departments, or who work in similar positions at other companies.  Assuming it’s not confidential information that can’t be shared, many will be open to sharing ideas, a process, or mistakes they’ve made…

A Mom’s Legacy

One of the great satisfactions I get from public speaking is the chance to salute, promote, and encourage working moms. Still today, when you would think most of the battles had been won, there continue to be raging debates about leaning in, equal pay, promotion tracks, and work–life balance. So much of this obscures the…
