Getting More from Your People
January 7, 2019
A handful of statements that I totally believe in: 1) people want to make a difference, 2) motivation expands when people feel in control, 3) structure breeds freedom, and 4) culture eats structure for lunch. So, what does all this mean? When you have a process whereby people can get clarity on what it is they are supposed to do, and they understand the responsibility they have, people are excited to do their best. Ambiguity is not good. If we all understand the rules by which a company plays, people can be motivated, can have the freedom to make a difference and do a job they are proud of. And in my mind, most importantly, CULTURE is all. When people are in a culture that works, where people are open and honest and say what they think, and the egos and politics are left at the door, that is when great things happen and people help the company to soar.
