Getting to Know You 

So you are new in town. You know a few wonderful people already, but you want to get to know a few more people, some of whom you hope can become really good friends. Invite the people you know to come to a luncheon or cocktail party at your home and ask each guest to bring two friends who would be fun for you to get to know. Entertaining in your home lets people know the real you. Dazzle them with your cooking expertise or simply set a pretty table and order in. Keep it simple and relaxed.

And when you have a friend who has recently moved to town, offer to host the same kind of event for him or her—at your place or theirs. It’s a fun and very kind thing to do.
